PHILLIP KOCH, oboe
August 9-10

A native of Iowa, Phillip Koch earned music performance degrees from Northwestern University and the Eastman School of Music. His oboe studies were with Ray Still and Richard Kilmer. Mr. Koch then became a member of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra in Norfolk, Virginia for nine seasons under the direction of JoAnn Falletta and was an oboe instructor on the adjunct faculty of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg for five years. He has participated in the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra under the direction of Leonard Bernstein and Seiji Ozawa, the National Repertory Orchestra, and the Aspen Music Festival. He also was a member of the Artist Faculty of the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina for five summers. Since moving back to the Midwest in 2001, Phillip Koch has performed as principal oboist of the Waukesha Symphony, Skylight Opera Orchestra, and with the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra. He can be heard opposite Wynton Marsalis in a recording of Aaron Copland’s “Quiet City” for trumpet, English horn and orchestra on CBS Masterworks. He now lives in Cedarburg, Wisconsin.
