From the Artistic and General Director
I hope you have continued to enjoy the glow of our beautiful 27th season during the warm afternoons of autumn. I am especially grateful to all who made the season possible by attending our concerts and contributing to the Festival.
Our guests at the Opening Night Gala enjoyed an especially warm ambiance, delicious food, festive atmosphere and touching tributes to the patrons who underwrote the costs of our principal chair musicians in our new Love a Musician initiative. They are pictured here as they meet for the first time during the appreciation ceremony at the Gala.
Our guest pianist Vassily Primakov and conductor Donato Cabrera were extremely impressed with this presentation and the Gala, saying they had never seen anything like either at any other organization…not such a lively post-concert party that went on and on. Of course, it was their wonderful performance that prompted the celebration, and indeed, for this we thank them most enthusiastically!
Who else was there?
We thank our Board of Directors for this beautiful event, which was chaired by Judysharon Buck and Marsha Portnoy.
Our second Oktoberfest with Woodstock’s Rotary was fantastic and enjoyed by all ages. The fun began on Friday evening, September 13, with Rocktoberfest, where those in attendance enjoyed a TGIF evening with bratwurst and beer while listening to the popular band Hans and the Hormones.
On Saturday, September 14, under beautiful sunny skies, families and friends enjoyed a German style Oktoberfest with afternoon activities for kids. Again, German food and libations along with Sun City’s “Let’s Dance Band” and Der Musikmeisters German Band provided fun and festivities into the evening. Polka Dance Lessons and the Beer Stein contests kept the party going. Here’s proof that everyone had a wonderful time.
Mark your calendars now so you don’t miss this great event next year on September 12-13 at the Woodstock Waterworks at Emrickson Park to raise support for community services and the Woodstock Mozart Festival.
Place de la Musique
The Sanfilippo Foundation generously offered a tour of their phenomenal antique mechanical instruments museum on September 7th to ticket buyers of last summer’s Festival. Everyone who attended was overwhelmed by the beauty and opulence of the Place de la Musique mansion decorated in Grand Epoch and Art Deco styles. All of the instruments were fully restored and working like new, the concert by the 8,000-pipe organ was riveting, and the magnificent restored French carousel in another building, breathtaking!
At the invitation of the Sanfilippo Foundation, we will hold a Chamber Music Concert and Master Class in the mansion's beautiful concert hall featuring clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein on Thursday, July 24th. The final concert of our 2014 season will also be held in the performance hall of the mansion (pictured above) on Sunday afternoon August 10th. Doors will open 90 minutes before the concerts begin to allow guests the opportunity to tour the facility at their leisure.
Thank You, Sanfilippo Foundation!
2014 Season Headliner
By now, many of you have asked about our 28thseason, which promises to be fantastic!
On July 24th clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein and our own players will present a Chamber Music Concert followed by a Master Class by Mr. Fiterstein at thePlace de la Musique in Barrington Hills.
…at the Woodstock Opera House
On July 25-26, popular Hungarian conductor Istvan Jaray returns to the podium with virtuoso clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein, who wowed us in 2007 and is known for his “flawless technique and consummate musicianship with graceful phrasing and a warm soulful sound.” As you might guess, Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto is on the program with more to be announced later.
On August 2-3, we welcome Maestro Jaray again when he collaborates with the young Polish pianist Igor Lipinsky, winner of the Grand Prix Award at the Paderewski Competition for Young Pianists in Poland at the age of 12. Mr. Lipinsky made his American orchestral debut with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra in Paderewski’s Piano Concerto, but for us, he will play Mozart.
On August 9-10, Violinists Igor and Vesna Gruppman return with another spectacular program, including Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. This is tango music extraordinaire. Unfortunately “dancing in the aisles” will not be permitted; however you can do your dancing ahead of time by accessing this work with piano accompaniment on YouTube: Piazzola Seasons - Gruppman. At our concerts, the orchestra will accompany the Gruppmans, and the final performance will be at the Place de la Musique on August 10.
